DCL explosion-proof electric actuators support industrial valve automation in specified explosive gas and combustible dust environments, excluding coal-mine applications. Their protection features address different operating risks: optional over-torque protection responds to excessive mechanical load, while motor thermal protection responds to abnormal winding temperature.

Optional Over-Torque Protection

Deposits, foreign particles or other obstructions can increase valve operating torque. When torque reaches the preset threshold, the optional torque switch interrupts the motor circuit, helping limit excessive loading on the valve and actuator transmission.

The protection threshold should match the selected actuator and valve assembly. Over-torque protection does not remove the obstruction or guarantee that every form of mechanical damage will be prevented.

Motor Winding Temperature Protection

A PTC thermal protector located in the motor winding interrupts the circuit when winding temperature reaches approximately 105°C. The circuit resets after the temperature falls to approximately 80–90°C.

Reset restores the circuit’s availability; subsequent motor operation depends on the control command and circuit arrangement. Repeated thermal trips require investigation of valve load, operating duty and the cause of overheating.

These temperature values describe motor protection thresholds, not allowable ambient temperatures. The specified actuator ambient range is −25°C to +55°C.

Flameproof Enclosure Design

The motor, electronic component and connection compartments incorporate flameproof construction. Controlled joint clearances and engagement lengths form part of the protection system, helping prevent an internal ignition from propagating to the surrounding explosive atmosphere under the certified conditions.

The aluminum alloy enclosure and flameproof joints must remain consistent with the approved construction. Installation, maintenance and replacement work should follow the applicable operating instructions and certification requirements.

Enclosure Protection and Hazardous-Area Certification

The series has an IP68 enclosure rating. Explosion-protection configurations include gas and dust markings under the applicable certification schemes. IP68 describes ingress protection and does not independently establish explosion-proof suitability.

CSA-certified configurations include Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D, and Class I, Zone 1 arrangements. Temperature classes and complete markings must be confirmed for the selected model rather than combined across different approvals.

Before ordering, verify the site classification, gas or dust group, temperature requirements, certificate coverage, supply voltage and optional functions. Final selection should also confirm valve torque, operating time and mounting compatibility.
